Final Announcement

This is the final announcement of the meeting THE CENTRAL ENGINE OF ACTIVE GALACTIC NUCLEI, scheduled to

be held in Xi'an, China, on October 16-21, 2006. Please read this carefully, as it contains important logistical information


All participants need to sign up and receive their registration package at the reception desk marked with "AGN 2006" in the lobby of the Academic Exchange Center---Nanyang Hotel.  Registration will be open all day on October 14-16, beginning at 8 am.  Late arrivals can inquire at the hotel reception desk of the Nanyang Hotel locate responsible LOC members.  Those who have not pre-paid their registration fee must do so at the registration desk.  We will accept cash in RMB, as well as the following major credit cards (American Express, Visa, Mastercard, Japan JCB, China Great Wall, Peony, and Dragon).

The venue for the meeting, including poster presentations, will be the Science Hall of the Xi'an Jiaotong University.  The Science Hall is located less than 10 minutes by foot from the Nanyang Hotel.




The final program is posted at the meeting website. If you are scheduled to speak, please check carefully the date and time of your talk. The assigned time slots in the program are 35 minutes for invited talks and 15 minutes for contributed talks, which include 2-5 minutes for questions and discussions.


Since the schedule is very tight, we ask all speakers to upload their presentations to a designated conference computer prior to their scheduled session. The accepted formats are Microsoft PowerPoint (PPT) and PDF. If you use some other format (e.g., Keynote), we advise you to convert your talk in either PPT and/or PDF formats. A convenient time to upload your presentation would be during registration. In addition, presentations can be uploaded in advance (but no later than October 13) by ftp to the following address:

We plan to make the presentation files available to the public after the conference; please let us know if you do not wish your presentation to be made public.

The maximum size of posters is 100 cm (width) by 122 cm (height). If you need help pinning up your poster on the billboards, ask for assistance at the reception desk.  


Most participants will be staying at either the Nanyang Hotel or the nearby Tianshan Hotel. It takes about 10 minutes to walk from the Nanyang Hotel to the Science Hall, where the meeting will be held. A map of Xi'an Jiaotong University, the Nanyang Hotel, and its relation to the Science Hall can be downloaded from the conference webpage (under Venue).  


The LOC will arrange bus transportation between the airport and Nanyang Hotel from on October 15 and 16, based on the travel information provided by the participants on the hotel registration form. Please look for the meeting poster at the airport outside of the baggage claim area. If you have not provided this information, or if your information has changed, please send it immediately to Fan Zhang ( so that we can properly arrange your pick-up. Please check the webpage for any updates on transportation logistics.

If you plan to arrive on October 14, the LOC will arrange to have some representatives meet you at the airport to help you arrange your transportation, but you are responsible for the cost. Again, look for the meeting poster. The representatives will help you board the correct shuttle bus to take you from the airport to downtown Xi'an, where you can take a taxi to the hotel. The shuttle ride takes about 40 minutes and costs 25 Yuan; the taxi ride takes about 8 minutes and costs about 10 Yuan.
