Title: Constraints on the properties of the BLR from low luminosity AGN

Abstract: Although the physical conditions in the BLR are well established, 
the origin of the gas and its spatial configuration are not as well 
determined. I will describe some new constraints on these properties 
obtained from reverberation mappings and high quality spectroscopy 
of NGC 4395, the lowest luminosity type 1 AGN, as well as SDSS observations 
of other low luminosity AGN. I will also briefly discuss additional 
observations which can provide further constraints on the origin and 
configuration of the BLR.
